This will be the first time since 1970 that the participants in the previous season’s Super Bowl will meet up in Week 1. However, the Kansas City Chiefs had to travel to face the Minnesota Vikings despite the Chiefs winning Super Bowl IV 1 . The Denver Broncos will host the Carolina Panthers in Week 1 on Thursday night. The Broncos beat up the Panthers in Super Bowl 50, and without distracting Hall of Fame QBs participating, maybe the primary focus will stay on the Denver defense? Or at least what’s left of it …

The 2016 NFL season features Christmas Sunday in Week 16 and a New Year Day finale in Week 17. Super Bowl LI will be February 5, 2016 – exactly five months after Labor Day.
