NFL Week 14 + 15 Review Log
December has been a silent month for The NetworksUnited, but not for my NFL elements. Here’s a reaction blog from the last two games.
-
This space will be used to drop selected references from the last two weeks of NFL action. Twitter and Neon Tommy got my work, while the NetworksUnited was left in the cold of December a little bit.
-
2013 NFL Week 14 picks (11-5 in Week 12, +37 for 2013): HOU, BAL, CIN, NE, NYJ, DET, PIT, TB, WAS, TEN, STL, SD, SEA, GB, CAR, CHI
-
Neon Tommy got five picks of mine for NFL Week 14: Colts @ Bengals, Lions @ Eagles, Seahawks @ 49ers, Panthers @ Saints, Cowboys @ Bears.
-
NFL Week 14 PredictionsChristopher Coppock: Colts 28, Bengals 24 In a battle of two 8-4 teams, expect the Colts to come out on top, despite the fact that Trent …
-
I split the difference in Week 14, going 8-8. Here's what I had to say about the games:Houston (20) at Jacksonville (27)
-
It makes me happy to see Gus Bradley and the Jaguars have some success. Great coach and some great people on that team!
-
Gary Kubiak went from having an 11-1 team this time last year to being the first coach fired …
-
-
Texans won’t consider Mike Shanahan for HC job. I wouldn’t have been surprised if it happened, but that must be a positive for Houston…
-
Also, there’s a potential RIP for the way the Houston Texans, Washington Redskins, and 1995-2009 Broncos played offense. Facing extinction.
-
Minnesota (26) at Baltimore (29)
-
I’m shocked that Dennis Pitta is back for Baltimore. Flacco hasn’t had a reliable inside player all year. Not that Pitta can be trusted yet
-
Whatup Dennis Pitta?!
-
Kansas City (45) at Washington (10)
-
I still stand by this column when it comes to Washington pro football team drama -> http://www.neontommy.com/news/2013/01/fatal-flaw-coaching-not-injury-costs-redskins …
-
Alex Smith and Dwayne Bowe are starting to figure it out. Better late than never.
-
Deuces, Mike Shanahan #Redskins
-
Jamaal Charles is so damn good
-
Detroit (20) at Philadelphia (34)
-
East Coast Snow
-
-
It’s a quarterback league, but there are some damn good backs to appreciate. What a snow tires run by LeSean McCoy
-
Is this the wildest Eagles game at the Linc ever?
-
Nick Foles read-option…
-
Nick Freakin Foles
-
Philadelphia Eagles have not had consecutive losing seasons in the 21st century
-
Indianapolis (28) at Cincinnati (42)
-
It’s about time Da’Rick Rogers made an impact in Colts’ offense …
-
The Colts are terrible. They’re really bad.
-
Andrew Luck threw more TDs in Cincy (4) than every QB combined in 5 previous games (3). Bengals still won.
-
Ready to hear the Chuck Pagano excuses…
-
Miami (34) at Pittsburgh (28)
-
Ben Roethlisberger is NOT the problem in Pittsburgh
-
Ben Roethlisberger asked why Steelers didn’t run as much in the second half. Says, “No idea. Coach Haley’s over there. You can ask him.”
-
Cleveland (26) at New England (27)
-
Rob Gronkowski is going to be football’s biggest “What If?” this decade. He has been seriously injured four of the last five seasons.
-
Josh Gordon is a top-five wide receiver if he learns to block and passes his tests
-
The Patriots are the San Antonio Spurs of the NFL. Undead species.
-
Josh Gordon’s 774 receiving yards in 4 games is the most in any 4-game stretch in NFL history. #Browns
-
The Patriots will be fine. Not so sure about Gronkowski. Multiple back surgeries, multiple arm surgeries, broken ankle, torn knee ligaments
-
Oakland (27) at New York Jets (37)
-
Terrelle Pryor has been on a serious DL since his most recent start … went from one of the most active media QBs to radio silence
-
Atlanta (21) at Green Bay (22)– A strong game by the Green Bay defense, holding Atlanta's offense under 300 yards for the game and scoreless in the second half. Atlanta's fourth quarter possessions = lost fumble by QB Matt Ryan (leading to go-ahead Green Bay TD pass), missed field goal, turnover on downs, interception.Buffalo (6) at Tampa Bay (27)-Tampa Bay RB Bobby Rainey took his first carry 80 yards to the house, and the rout was on. Tampa Bay survived a terrible day from rookie QB Mike Glennon (9/25, 90 yards, two TDs, two INTs). Buffalo wasn't so lucky, as rookie QB EJ Manuel turned in a 0 TD, 4-INT performance.Saint Louis (10) at Arizona (30)-Just an efficient performance by the Arizona offense, as QB Carson Palmer completed 27-of-32 passes for 269 yards and a TD to WR Larry Fitzgerald. Palmer also was sacked only once, while RBs Rashard Mendenhall and rookie Andre Ellington each had a rushing score. Rams QB Kellen Clemens took seven sacks and threw two INTs, including one returned for a TD by Arizona ILB Karlos Dansby.
-
Tennessee (28) at Denver (51)
-
Matt Prater-bomb. New NFL record. Now for complaints that kickers are too good for these uprights…
-
My apologies, Peyton. Cold weather, Gregg Williams, and solid DBs are not weaknesses.
-
New York Giants (14) at San Diego (37)
-
I enjoy seeing Philip Rivers outplay former San Diego Chargers draft choice Eli Manning
-
Seattle (17) at San Francisco (19)
-
You all can stop the Kaepernick panic now
-
Carolina (13) at New Orleans (31)
-
Glad Kobe is coming back tonight, but I’ll let you all handle Raptors/Lakers. Panthers/Saints is the game of the night
-
Mike Mitchell is getting torn up tonight by Drew Brees and the Saints offense. You can talk, but you better walk
-
Thanks for playing, Carolina Panthers… I’ll be shocked if the NFC Championship is anything but Saints in Seattle
-
Panthers at NO is the NFC version of Chiefs at DEN. First time all season that Panthers have allowed 25+ points
-
Dallas (28) at Chicago (45)
-
7-8 going into #MNF … going with the Bears, not just because of Dallas December narrative. Dallas worst 5 offensive games on road in ’13
-
Dallas came out running, which is admirable for them. Chicago is coming out passing, which is impressive in the Illinois weather #MNF
-
Josh McCown has been outstanding filling in for Jay Cutler. I thought Bears were going into season with weak backup option. 10 TDs, 1 INT.
-
The Chicago run defense looks like Dave Wannstedt is back coaching it
-
Brandon Marshall was nice enough to keep Sean Lee’s jaw intact … what a pop block
-
Josh McCown is out here going Elway on the Cowboys …
-
Cowboys won’t have any problems with Chicago defense.
-
Alshon Jeffery is no joke
-
The Cowboys look extra cold out there
-
Cowboys are getting their mail read. Romo doing a great job avoiding TOs but you can’t get through a Cowboys game without “miscommunication”
-
Any chance that Jon Gruden brings up how he and Monte Kiffin’s last four games in Tampa Bay went? Specifically, the defensive collapse? #MNF
-
Josh McCown has set a career high with 13 TD passes. Imagine if the Bears had a defense, or if Trestman didn’t screw up the Lions game?
-
Neon Tommy got five picks of mine for NFL Week 15: Patriots @ Dolphins, Jets @ Panthers, Packers @ Cowboys, Bengals @ Steelers, Ravens @ Lions.
-
NFL Week 15 PredictionsChristopher Coppock: Patriots 24, Dolphins 17 Up until last week, I assumed that the Patriots were one of the best teams in the AFC. Howe…
-
2013 NFL Week 15 picks (8-8 in Week 14, +37 for 2013): DEN, BUF, CHI, HOU, MIA, PHI, SEA, TB, ATL, CAR, OAK, GB, STL, TEN, PIT, BAL
-
San Diego (27) at Denver (20)
-
Looks like Ryan Mathews needed to separate from Norv Turner’s offense just as much as Philip Rivers …
-
I’ll admit … After that Peyton INT, I definitely checked the temperature in Denver … it’s cold.
-
-
FWIW, Chargers have ensured that they will not have a 10-loss season for the 10th straight season. Only Patriots, Steelers (?) share claim
-
Buffalo (27) at Jacksonville (20)-Buffalo rookie QB EJ Manuel had two more turnovers and took four more sacks, but he threw two TDs and ran for one as he won his first road game as a starter. Jacksonville turned the ball over four times.San Francisco (33) at Tampa Bay (14)-San Francisco K Phil Dawson missed three of his first six field goals of the season. He hasn't missed a kick since, scoring a season-high 15 points in Tampa Bay while extending his team-record field goals made streak to 24. Tampa Bay's special teams also gave up a backbreaking fourth quarter touchdown when WR Russell Shepard lost a fumble on a lateral that was recovered for a TD by San Francisco RB Kendall Hunter.Washington (26) at Atlanta (27)-There were seven fumbles in this game – Atlanta recovered six of them, including all five of Washington's. Redskins QB Kirk Cousins also threw two INTs, leading to all of Atlanta's ten second-half points. Cousins did throw for 381 yards and three TDs, but Washington failed to convert a go-ahead two-point conversion at the end of the fourth quarter, and Atlanta recovered the ensuing onside kick.New York Jets (20) at Carolina (30)-The Panthers didn't turn the ball over as they went run-heavy, racking up 392 total yards. Jets WR Santonio Holmes only caught one more pass (2) than Carolina CB Captain Munnerlyn, who returned Jets rookie QB Geno Smith's fourth-quarter INT for a 41-yard INT.
-
New England (20) at Miami (24)
-
New England Patriots = only NFL team without a former first round pick at QB or skill positions
-
Patriots have lost four games by a combined 18 points this season, and all of those losses came down to the final play on the road
-
Chicago (38) at Cleveland (31)
-
Remember when the Browns had a good defense?
-
Seattle (23) at New York Giants (0)
-
Eli Manning though…
-
Meanwhile….can Tom Coughlin bench Eli Manning for the rest of the season to “preserve him for the offseason” too?? haha
-
The Seahawks would love to go back to MetLife Stadium and do that to Eli’s brother in February
-
Only QBs with worse rating than Eli Manning right now are Terrelle Pryor and Geno Smith. Manning has also been sacked career-high 36 times
-
Philadelphia (30) at Minnesota (48)
-
This is kind of performance many thought #Eagles defense would deliver on a weekly basis. Bill Davis has been doing it w/ smoke and mirrors.
-
Matt Asiata (30 carries, 51 yards, 1.7 YPA, 3 TDs) set the NFL record today for worst yards per carry from a 3-TD, 25+ carry performance
-
Curtis Martin had 42 yards on 30 carries in 1998. No TDs. Worst 30-carry performance in NFL history. But Jets won 20-17 in Kansas City.
-
Houston (3) at Indianapolis (25)
-
Sorry for trying to sell Case Keenum… the question for Texans must be how bad is T.J. Yates? From playoff win to 3rd-string afterthought
-
Arizona (37) at Tennessee (34)
-
Arizona at Tennessee used to mean Matt Leinart vs. Vince Young … now it’s Leinart’s former teammate (Palmer) vs. Young’s (Fitzpatrick)
-
Carson Palmer got off to a rough start this year with all of the INTs, but he has 13 TDs and only 4 INTs over last 7 games.
-
It’s a shame Arizona and Tennessee only play once every four years …
-
Last time Cardinals played Titans, Vince Young put on his Rose Bowl encore
-
Ryan Fitzpatrick saves his worst for last far too often. Another winnable game blown by Tennessee
-
These backup QBs have an obligation to give their teams a chance to win. Some do. But then they get a good bucket of milk and kick it over.
-
New Orleans (16) at Saint Louis (27)
-
2011 Rams won only two games. One of them was at home vs. 13-3 New Orleans Saints. Brees was picked twice and took 6 sacks in that one
-
If you don’t think history plays a part in these games, you’re crazy
-
Kansas City (56) at Oakland (31)
-
Raiders defense was taking positive steps earlier this season … but then Nick Foles showed up and dropped 7 on ’em. Now Charles showing up
-
It took nine years, but Alex Smith has his first 20 TD season. Five TD passes, three incompletions in Oakland. Hot damn.
-
I think Matt McGloin’s time is up … And don’t look now, but Oakland just gave up a franchise record for points allowed.
-
Jamaal Charles has 18 of Kansas City’s 37 TDs from scrimmage this season and more yards from scrimmage than top 3 KC receivers combined
-
Green Bay (37) at Dallas (36)
-
Pick your poison, McCarthy: More Flynn or a stronger arm in Tolzien
-
Cowboys never make things easy…
-
Green Bay’s defense doesn’t have an excuse for poor QB play this week (not that it’s a valid excuse any week). That unit is not worthy
-
Oh look, Green Bay defense made a play …
-
America needs the Cowboys to lose this game lol…
-
Memo to Jason Garrett: Just because your kicker has solid range and uncanny accuracy does not mean you settle for a 53-yard field goal
-
Romo definitely threw that pick… #December
-
Quarterbacks have these vices… Peyton Manning in the cold. Drew Brees outside NOLA. Romo in December. Blaine Gabbert in a game. Etc etc
-
Only the second multi-INT game of the season by Tony Romo.
-
Bill Callahan once said the Raiders were the dumbest team in America. I wonder if he’ll reconsider after this debacle in Dallas.
-
First Packers win in Dallas since Troy Aikman’s rookie year. Said this game was winnable for Green Bay, but damn.
-
Everybody I know said Packers would lose in DAL because Rodgers = out. There are few defenses that can make Flynn look good, DAL one of them
-
Cincinnati (20) at Pittsburgh (30)
-
Coming into this game, highest rated AFC passers: Peyton Manning, Philip Rivers, Ben Roethlisberger.
-
The Bengals and Saints have outside chances of missing the playoffs. Even if either team makes it in, both teams have been sorry on the road
-
Baltimore (18) at Detroit (16)
-
#MNF Baltimore hasn’t had an indoor game all season. If Flacco doesn’t have the best game of his season in Detroit, Ravens are done
-
Another mind-blower: only QBs with at least as many game-winning drives as Geno Smith (4) this season = Wilson (4), Flacco (4), Brady (5)
-
Indianapolis Colts, Detroit Lions, Dallas Cowboys are a combined 13-1 in their divisions, 10-18 in games played outside their divisions
