Self-Titled Album Track #5: Soul Chix

(For more on Self-Titled Album, check the first post.)

The following is from Season 3 of the MADDSKILLZ Update (March 06):

… I need to get back to the stage.  I’ve been ready to do stand-up since I got back to Philly.  When I find a venue, I’ll just introduce a screenplay called Soul Chix.  Those “strong, independent” women that would beat the hell out of someone, but they use God as their restraining order.  Soul Chix … they have just enough strength to get through the day and cuss somebody out.  Soul Chix … keeping it real while being as fake as Beverly Hills.  Soul Chix … It’s hard to describe, but I’d have a lot of fun acting it out.

Surely he's not talking about me...

I couldn’t just act it out though.  I had to write a song about it.  And sing it as bad as I possibly could.

Or as bad as he would.

5. Soul Chix

This is a comedy song.  Back in Season 3, when I was getting used to the women around Pittsburgh, I came up with the “Soul Chix” concept.  The song explains itself; it is probably the most offensive track on the album if taken too seriously!  I had the cracking falsetto going on to add to the comedy and I didn’t even attempt to edit Aretha Franklin’s voice out of “Chain of Fools”.  The sample in the intro of the song is from “Say What!” by Stevie Ray Vaughan.

I'm sure Stevie Ray knows what I'm talking about.

You already know what’s going on here.  I love my strong Christian women.  And I’m sure they love themselves.  Because how else can you explain the stereotype of being that overbearing personality who can’t ever be messed with, especially if they’re not in church that day?

*Lawd!*

One day I should make a legit music video for this track.  You know, besides the one I already made up there.  I might want to wait until I get my security up before going that route.  But it would be highly entertaining.

And possibly lucrative. I'm sure Don Cornelius needs a new closing theme.
