Today is Good Friday, the day Jesus was crucified. I am not going to make any connections to the crucifixion of Christ to my life or anything like that. That would be on some level of blasphemous.
I can say that I’ve been on the quiet side all year (or forever, depending on how you know me). I haven’t really spilled details, but it has been an exhausting year here in Los Angeles. After finishing up with City Year in June 2011, I decided to take a leap of faith in staying in Los Angeles rather than better secure my short-term situation. The summer was absolutely stressful and crazy, and I acknowledged in the Bill Cosby article that I could very well be done in Los Angeles come 2012 if nothing worked out.
Well, it took ten months, but two years after finding out I was coming to LA from Philly, I got this in the mail:
I’ll have a lot of folks to thank for helping me get to this point. Chances are, if you are reading this, you are one of them. From the Good Lord, to my family and friends, and to the institutions I’ve been a part of these last 14 years (Friends’ Central, California University of PA, City Year Greater Philadelphia, City Year Los Angeles, even Starbucks), I have been blessed.
Of course, things don’t get easier from here, since I have to sort through the details of 2012. Logistics need to be set up to ensure that I will be starting school with no problems in the fall. But for anyone who was wondering what I was doing with myself this year (and I was one of those people for awhile), this is the ultimate justification. Happy Easter/Passover weekend!
